The Annunciation: The angel Gabriel announced that Mary would conceive and give birth to the Son of God. Gabriel told Mary great truths about Christ. These three truths, if denied, will send the unbelieving soul to hell.
The Annunciation | Christ Is Great: “He shall be great”
A. Many times we use the term “great” to describe things that are no great at all.
- The great athlete a. hits a ball a long distance, b. kicks a ball through uprights, c. throws a ball into a basket, yet after a few years the event is forgotten.
- The great politician is more guileful than great.
- What men call great and what the Bible calls great are two different things.
B. Christ is greater because He provided salvation for sinful man on Calvary.
C. Christ is greater because He can change a person’s destiny from hell to heaven for eternity.
D. Christ is greater because He rose from the dead and ascended into heaven to vouchsafe that promise.
The Announcement | Christ Is God–”Son of the Highest”
A. Christ is the Son of God, Matthew 1:20, 23; Hebrews 1:1-4.
B. Christ is the Son of Man.
The Announcement | Christ Is Governor, Matthew 2:6.
A. Christ is the Seed of David, Heir to the Throne.
B. Christ will be the Prince of Peace.
The Annunciation | Conclusion
Our holiday greetings need to be more than a “Happy Holidays!” It needs to be an annunciation, an announcement that Christ came to pay for the sins of those who will believe in Him. Only He can provide eternity in heaven and peace.
