Revelation 10:1-11
Introduction
The sixth trumpet has sounded and the second woe is past. Here the scene changes from earth back to heaven.
The Appearance of the Angel, vv. 1-4
A. This Mighty Angel is the Angel of the Lord Jesus
- The cloud and rainbow, see Revelation 1:16
- The feet of fire, see Revelation 1:15
- The face as the sun, see Revelation 1:16
- The voice like a lion, see Revelation 5:5, this Roar announces that the 3rd woe is about to fall. These are sealed words.
- The description that this angel really does stand on the sea and land, as opposed to the Colossus of Rhodes.
B. The Little Book
- Unlike the sealed book in Revelation 5:1, this book is open.
- Verse 7 says the book are the prophecies of the Old Testament prophets.
- The prophets did not speak about the Church. They spoke about Israel, the Jews, and Jerusalem.
The Announcement from the Angel, vv. 5-7
Christ lifts His hand and affirms there will be no more delay in judgment.
The mystery of God will be finished or completed!
God is in control of history and will see to it that right triumphs over wrong.
The Appropriation of the Book by the Apostle, vv. 8-11
A. It’s not enough to see the little book or to know what it contains.
B. John had to appropriate it; make it a part of his inner person.
C. The Word of God is our spiritual food.
- Its promises are sweet to the taste.
- Its judgments are bitter, knowing the suffering of those who will be persecuted and those who will experience God’s terrible wrath.
