Heaven’s Hallelujah Chorus
The Anthem of Joy in Heaven, vv. 1-10
A. Because sin has been judged, vv. 1-4
B. Because God is reigning, vv. 5-6
C. Because the Marriage of the Lamb is come, vv. 7-10
Lehman Strauss wrote: “Has it ever occurred to you that at the Marriage of the Bride to the Lamb, each of us will be wearing the wedding garment of our own making?”
The Armies of Christ from Heaven, vv. 11-16
Notice the Differences
A. In 4:1, heaven opens to let the church in; here, heaven opens to let Christ and His armies ride forth to battle.
B. At His trial, Christ said the Father could send legions of angels to deliver Him; here, the Lord rides forth with legions of saints and angels (Matthew 25:31; 1 Thessalonians 3:13).
C. In 6:1, the Beast rode on a white horse, imitating Christ; here, the “Faithful and True” rides forth to judge and make war (Psalm 45:1-47).
D. Christ no longer rides on a humble donkey, but He rides on a fiery white charger.
E. He comes not to bear the cross of God’s judgment on sin, but to tread the winepress of God’s wrath at the Battle of Armageddon. He is King of kings, and Lord of lords.
The Announcement of Judgment on Earth, vv. 17-21
A. Two Suppers in this Chapter
- Marriage Supper of the Lamb, v. 9
- the Supper of God at Armageddon
B. The Angel Announces the Defeat of the Armies of the world.
- They are only flesh
- Flesh is no match against Christ
C. Christ destroys the armies with the Word.
- Men would not bow to His Word and receive the Gospel, so now they must be slain by the Word.
- Christ captures the Beast and False Prophet and casts them alive into hell.
- Christ captures Satan and imprisons him in the bottomless pit for 1000 years, 20:1-3.
