The Scenes in Heaven before Judgment Falls
Introduction
Before opening the seals, we were shown a scene in heaven (Revelation 4-5). There was a similar scene before the trumpets were blown (Revelation 8). John now sees a scene in heaven before the Vials/Bowls of God’s Wrath are poured out.
The Victors and Their Songs, vv. 1-4
A. These are the Tribulation Saints
- They refused the Mark of the Beast.
- They were killed for their faith in Christ.
- They are victors, not victims.
B. The Sea Mingled with Fire
- In Revelation 4:6, the sea was clear.
- Here. the sea is mingled with the fire of God’s wrath. See Hebrews 12:29–“Our God is a consuming fire.”
C. The Victors Sing and Play Harps
- The 144,000 sing the Song of Moses, Exodus 15:1-27.
- The Gentiles saints sing the Song of the Lamb.
The Vials and Their Significance, vv. 5-8
A. The Temple of Heaven is opened, cf. 11:19.
- The earthly Temple was taken over by the Beast.
- The Open Heavenly Temple shows God keeping His covenant with Israel.
B. The Seven Angels come out of the Heavenly Temple.
- Seven is the number of completion and deity.
- These are the Seven last plagues of God’s Wrath.
C. One of the Four Beasts give the angels the 7 golden vials of God’s wrath. All nature will taste the Wrath of God.
D. The Heavenly Temple is filled with smoke from the Shekinah Glory of God.
E. No man was allowed in the Temple to intercede for the world.
- The nations are beyond intercession and redemption.
- God’s long-suffering has run out; His patience has come to an end.
- Judgment and Wrath will now Fall!
