Introduction
The twelve verses of Psalm 2 can be divided into four sections of three verses each. In each section a different person speaks.
The Voice of the Heathen, vv. 1-3
A. “The rulers take counsel together”: ever since Babel, men band together against God.
B. “Against the Lord and His Anointed”
1. Sin makes men hateful enemies of God
2. Sin makes men hateful enemies of His Anointed, Jesus Christ, Who is the image of the Father (John 10:30; 14:9; Hebrews 1:3-5).
C. “Let us break their bands asunder”: enemies of God see Him has a bondage-maker, not a bondage breaker.
The Voice of the Father, vv. 4-6
A. The Voice of Derision: God laughs at their pitiful rebellion, v. 4.
B. The Voice of Displeasure, v. 5
1. This is the time of Great Tribulation, Revelation 6-19.
2. The Lord will “vex them in His sore displeasure”: the word “displeaure” means “burning fury.”
C. The Voice of Declaration, v. 6–The Father will one day place His Son as King in Zion.
The Voice of the Son, vv. 7-9
A. Christ will declare the Eternal Plan of God, v. 7.
B. Christ will receive an inheritance from the Father, v. 8 and Hebrews 1:4-5.
C. Christ will rule with an iron hand, v. 9.
The Voice of the Spirit, vv. 10-12
A. The Spirit advises: “Be wise; be instructed,” v. 10.
B. The Spirit advises: “Serve Him and rejoice,” v. 11.
C. The Spirit advises: “Kiss the Son,” and love Him, v. 12.
Conclusion
“Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him,” v. 12.
