Spring Defined
Spring is God thinking in gold, laughing in blue, and speaking in green.
Autumn
I like autumn best of all, because its leaves are a little yellow, its tone mellower, its colors richer, and it is tinged a little with sorrow. Its golden richness speaks not of the innocence of spring, not of the power of summer, but of the mellowness and kindly wisdom of approaching age. It knows the limitations of life and is content. –Lin Yutang
An Appointment
Harvard philosophy professor George Santayana was giving a lecture one day when he paused to look at the brilliant yellow forsythia blooming outside the window. Many long seconds passed. Then he said: “Gentlemen, I very much fear that that last sentence will never be completed. You see, I have an appointment with April.” He left the room and never gave regular lectures again.
