God Owns the Vineyard, Israel
A. The Wicked Tenants are the Pharisees.
- Tenants pay just dues to the owner for the privilege of farming His land.
- The Pharisees are wicked tenants because:
- they reject the claim of the owner
- they work for themselves
- they manipulate the vineyard, or spread more manure than needed
B. The Servants are the Prophets
- The prophets served “Past Due” notices to the tenants.
- The prophets were sent to interpret the terms of the lease.
- The prophets were beaten and mistreated by the wicked tenants.
C. The Son is Jesus, Whom They Killed.
D. The Lord Returns with Vengeance.
- God will kill the wicked tenants.
- God will lease the vineyard to other tenants, the Gentiles.
- God will build the kingdom on the foundation of His Son.
God Owns the Vineyard, the Church
A. The Wicked Tenants are Some Church Members.
- Tenants must pay their rent to the owner.
- Wicked tenants are self-serving church members.
- Wicked tenants are abusive toward their leaders.
B. The Servants are Pastors and Church Leaders.
- Pastors serve “Past Due” notices to the church.
- Pastors interpret the terms of God’s covenant.
- Pastors are mistreated.
C. The Son is Jesus, Who is Ignored, even though We Know He is God’s Son.
D. The Lord Returns with Judgment.
- God will kill wicked tenants.
- God will lease the vineyard to other tenants.
- God will base the kingdom on the foundation of His Son.
Conclusion
A. God maintains His ownership and authority over His dominion.
B. We are only tenants in God’s vineyard. We are required to pay our just dues.
C. Wicked tenants cannot manipulate or overthrow God’s kingdom.
D. Tenants are judged by how well they receive God’s Son.
