Jeremiah prophesies Babylon’s destruction and Israel’s deliverance.

Babylon’s Destruction, 50:1-3, 9-16, 21-27, 29-32, 35-46; 51:1-14, 20-33, 37-60

A. The Source of the Destruction

1. The One Who Directs the Destruction–>God Himself, 50:9; 51:1-6, 9-12, 45-46

2. The One Who Delivers the Destruction–>Cyrus, the Persian Emperor, 50:1-3, 41-46; 51:20-24, 45-46

B. The Sins for the Destruction

1. Babylon Plundered Judah, 50:11
2. Babylon Defiled the Temple, 51:51
3. Babylon Is Proud, 50:32
4. Babylon Is Totally Given Over to Idolatry, 50:38, 51:7-8, 44, 47-50

C. The Severity of the Destruction

1. Babylon’s walls will be leveled & gates burned, 51:53-58
2. Babylon’s wise men will become fools, 50:35-31
3. Babylon’s warriors will be killed, 50:30-31
4. Babylon’s wounds will be heard throughout the land, 51:52
5. Babylon’s horses will be slaughtered and chariots smashed, 50:37
6. Babylon will become a deserted wasteland, 50:12-16
7. Babylon will be inhabited by wild animals, 50:39; 51:37-43
8. Babylon will be destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah, 50:40
9. Babylon’s debris will never be used for building, 51:26-26
10. Babylon will be filled with enemies, 51:13-14

Israel’s Deliverance, 50:4-8, 17-20, 28, 33-34; 51:15-19

A. The Sheep

1. Israel has been led astray by her own leaders, 50:6-8
2. Israel has been devoured by the Assyrians and Babylonians, 50:17-20
3. Israel will repent and be restored, 50:4-8, 28; 51:10

B. The Shepherd

1. The Shepherd is the Lord Almighty, 50:33-34
2. The Shepherd created the earth and preserves it by His wisdom, 51:15-16
3. The Shepherd alone is the true God, 51:17-19
