Introduction
While imprisoned in Zedekiah’s royal dungeon, Jehovah declared several promises, v. 1.
A. This is Jehovah the Creator.
B. This is Jehovah the Covenant-maker.
“Call and I Will Answer,” vv. 2-3
The “mighty things” God promises are beyond imagination compared to the siege and destruction by the Babylonians. God is always available to His people when they call upon Him.
The Captives Will Return, vv. 4-9
A. Both Judah and Israel will return to the Land, v. 7.
B. God “will pardon all their iniquities,” v. 8.
C. They “will fear and tremble for all the goodness and prosperity” God will give them, v. 9.
The Land Will Once Again Be Filled with Joy and Gladness, vv. 10-13.
The Heir of David Will Rule Israel, the Lord Our Righteousness, vv. 14-18.
A. The Branch of Righteousness: the hewn tree will sprout a ruler again.
B. The Kingdom will be ruled by the Lord our Righteousness.
The Davidic Covenant Is Eternal, vv. 19-26.
A. The two families that the Lord has chosen is Israel and Judah.
B. All of Israel will be reunited under the rule of the Messiah.
