Jeremiah 2 is the Lord’s legal brief for divorce court case against the Northern Kingdom, Israel. The Law was a marriage contract between the Lord and Israel. The Lord was married to Israel at Mt Sinai. Because of Israel’s idolatry, or spiritual adultery, Israel’s defense “does not hold water”; it is a broken cistern.
