What Child Is This?
Introduction
Isaiah 11 tells us why is the birth of Jesus more important than the birth of any other religious leader.
Thesis: Jesus is God in the Flesh.
The Messiah Will Be the Child of David.
A. Jesus was a descendant of David through Mary.
B. Jesus was a rod from the stump of David.
- The rod or branch is a small, tender product.
- The branch is easily broken when it first appears.
- The Branch becomes a mighty tree.
The Messiah Will Be the Child of God.
A. Jesus was procreated by a virgin and the Holy Spirit.
B. Jesus possessed the attributes of God.
- The Spirit of God rests on Him.
- The Spirit of God leads Him.
- The Spirit of God works through Him.
C. Jesus performed the works of God.
- Jesus knew God’s will.
- Jesus obeyed God’s will, “the fear of the Lord.”
a. The word “quick” or “delight” literally means “smell of burning incense.”
b. Jesus offered or burned His life as a sacrifice of incense, 1 Cor. 2:14
The Messiah Will Be the Child of Peace.
A. The Christ-child leads / brings people to God, vv. 6 & 10.
B. The Christ-child regenerates people for God.
C. The Christ-child will recreate creation for God, vv. 6-9. When? The second advent, v. 11.
Conclusion
Isaiah 11 tells us why is the birth of Jesus more important than the birth of any other religious leader.
This is Christ, the King, Whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring Him laud, the Babe, the Son of Mary!
