Luke 2:1-7
Introduction
Several times in Scripture, we read that certain people took Jesus and laid Him in certain places for various purposes.
His Mother Laid Him in a Manger, Luke 2:1-7
Jesus was not born “in the beauty of the lilies,” but in the squalor of a stable! Why was He laid in a manger?
A. Because of necessity–“no room in the inn.”
B. Because of love–it was the best Mary could find.
C. Because of God’s invitation: “Come and dine.” He was the Bread of Life offered to sinful man.
His Enemies Laid Him on a Cross, Luke 23:33
A. Because of envy, Mark 15:9-14
B. Because of hatred, John 15:25
C. Because of ignorance, Luke 23:34
D. Actually, Jesus laid down His own life, John 10:15, 17-18
His Friends Laid Him in a Tomb, Matthew 27:55-60 and John 19:38-42
A. Because of reverence
B. Because of love
C. Because of guilt. Both Joseph and Nicodemus were suffering the pangs of guilt for their belated loyalty to Jesus.
His Father Laid Him in Zion, Isaiah 28:16
A. Jesus is the precious cornerstone of the church, Acts 4:10-12
B. We can be a part of this living organism–Christ’s church, 1 Peter 2:4-7; Ephesians 2:19-21
