Introduction
Thesis: The Passover prefigures Christ’s saving sacrifice.
The Lord Was Without Fault.
A. The lamb was tested by separation, Exodus 12:5-6.
B. The Lamb was tested by Pilate, who declared Him innocent, John 18:38.
The Lord Was Slain, Exodus 12:7, 13.
A. The blood propitiates sin.
B. The blood protects believers from judgment.
C. The blood emancipates believers from slavery.
The Lord Is Remembered in a Feast, Exodus 12:14 and 1 Corinthians 11:26.
A. The Lord instituted the Lord’s Supper at a Passover feast.
- Christ is the paschal Lamb Who takes away sin.
- Christ is the unleavened bread, Who has no taint of sin.
- Christ is the bitter herb, reminding us of the bitterness of slavery to sin. Christ became sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21).
B. The Church celebrated the Lord’s Supper at an Agape feast.
C. We celebrate the Lord’s Passover by:
- Trusting the blood of Christ to save us by faith;
- Feasting on the Word of God. Christ is the Living Word; the Written Word is the Bible.
