Christ as Potentate: Jesus Is the King of Kings
A. Jesus is King as the Son of David.
- The Shiloh of Jacob’s blessing of Judah, Genesis 40:10, the Promised Messiah.
- The Star and Scepter out of Jacob in the oracle of Balaam about the latter days, Numbers 24:17, the Coming of the Messiah.
B. Jesus is King as the Son of God, Psalm 2:7 & 2 Samuel 7:14.
- Israel was the son of God by adoption, Exodus 4:22ff; Hosea 11:1.
- Kings of Israel were also the sons of God by adoption, Psalm 2:7 & 2 Samual 7:14.
- Jesus is the True Son of God; He was not adopted.
C. Jesus is King as the Son of Man.
Christ as Potentate: Jesus Is the Lord of Lords
A. Lord is the old covenant name for God, Exodus 3.
- The Lord is the creator of life.
- The Lord is the Sovereign of the Universe.
B. Lord is the new covenant name for Christ.
- The Lord is the creator of eternal life.
- The Lord is the Sovereign of the Kingdom of God.
Conclusion
- As prophet, Jesus represents God to man.
- As priest, Jesus represents man to God.
- As potentate, Christ/Jesus is God incarnate.
