Some accused Paul of being in the ministry for “what he can get out of it.” Paul gives evidence that proves his ministry is sincere.
His Determination, v. 1
Paul endured many dangers in preaching the Gospel. Why would he keep on preaching if he were not sincere? Paul ministry was a stewardship: God gave it to him and God gave him the strength to persevere.
His Honesty, vv. 2-4
A. Paul does not resort to manipulation and shameful methods, v. 2.
B. Paul does not distort the Word of God.
C. Paul preaches Jesus, not himself.
D. If his Gospel is hidden, it is hidden by Satan, vv. 4-5.
His Humility, vv. 8-10
A. If Paul were out for personal gain, why did he suffer so much?
B. The man who compromises the Word of God for personal gain will not suffer; he will be welcomed and honored.
C. Paul suffered abused, rejection, and difficulties.
His Unselfishness, vv. 11-15
A. Paul was willing to suffer and die for Jesus and the churches.
B. Paul was willing to go anywhere, willing to endure anything, if it brought glory to God and good to the churches.
His Faith, vv. 16-18
A. Though his outer man is perishing day by day, the inward man is being renewed day by day, 2 Corinthians 3:18.
B. Paul considers his sufferings as light when compared to the weight of glory God has stored up for him.
C. Paul’s years of trials are nothing compared to the eternity of bliss that awaits him.
Conclusion
A. We must be careful how we handle the Word of God. We must not resort to manipulation to gain converts or entertainment to draw a large following.
B. This Glorious Gospel is contained in broken pots–>us. We should not allow ourselves to become “holier than thou.”
C. We must endure our lives and ministry with eternity in view. It is an honor to suffer if we suffer for Christ.
