The Place of Prayer in the Local Church, vv. 1-8

A. “First of all”–>Prayer is vital to the local church.

B. Its Nature

1. Supplications–>asking God to supply needs
2. Prayer–>worship and adoration of God
3. Intercessions–>praying for others
4. Thanksgivings for answered prayer

C. Its Aim

1. Pray for peace of society.
2. Pray for government leaders–>this is good and pleasing to God.
3. Pray for the salvation of the lost.

D. Its Conditions

1. “Without Wrath”
2. “Holy Hands”
3. “Faith”
4. Men are to take the lead in public prayer.

The Place of Women in the Local Church, vv. 9-15

Paul presents a 3-fold headship in the local church:

1. the Headship of Christ over the body, Colossians 1:18
2. the Headship of the Pastor over the flock, Acts 20:28
3. the Headship of the Man over the Woman, 1 Corinthians 11:1-16; 1 Timothy 2:12

A. Modesty, v. 9–>don’t draw attention away from Christ to oneself. See 1 Peter 3:1-6.

C. Industry

1. Practice good works
2. Idleness leads to gossip and busybodies in other people’s affairs.

D. Humility

1. “Silence,” v. 12 & v. 2 “peaceable” are the same word in Greek.
2. To learn in silence is the idea of women receiving the teaching of the men of God, chosen to lead the church, with submission instead of contention.
3. Women are not to usurp the teaching authority in the church:
   • a. Be under authority is the principle.
   • b. She will be saved in the childbirth.
