A. “First of all”–>Prayer is vital to the local church.
B. Its Nature
- Supplications–>asking God to supply needs
- Prayer–>worship and adoration of God
- Intercessions–>praying for others
- Thanksgivings for answered prayer
C. Its Aim
- Pray for peace of society.
- Pray for government leaders–>this is good and pleasing to God.
- Pray for the salvation of the lost.
D. Its Conditions
- “Without Wrath”
- “Holy Hands”
- “Faith”
- Men are to take the lead in public prayer.
The Place of Women in the Local Church, vv. 9-15
Paul presents a 3-fold headship in the local church:
- the Headship of Christ over the body, Colossians 1:18
- the Headship of the Pastor over the flock, Acts 20:28
- the Headship of the Man over the Woman, 1 Corinthians 11:1-16; 1 Timothy 2:12
A. Modesty, v. 9–>don’t draw attention away from Christ to oneself. See 1 Peter 3:1-6.

- Practice good works
- Idleness leads to gossip and busybodies in other people’s affairs.
D. Humility
- “Silence,” v. 12 & v. 2 “peaceable” are the same word in Greek.
- To learn in silence is the idea of women receiving the teaching of the men of God, chosen to lead the church, with submission instead of contention.
- Women are not to usurp the teaching authority in the church:
- a. Be under authority is the principle.
- b. She will be saved in the childbirth.
