Key Word
“establish,” meaning to set forth, grounded
Christians go through testing and afflictions (1 Thessalonians 3:3, 5). Unless they are established, grounded, in the Word, they will be upset by the devil.
What did Paul do to establish these believers?
He Sent Them a Man, vv. 1-2
Paul sent them Timothy to strengthen them and instruct them in doctrine.
He Wrote Them a Letter, vv. 3-4
Believers are built by the Word of God. The Christian who is ignorant of the Bible is prey to every wind of false doctrine and will never be established, firmly rooted, in the Lord. He will believe anything that sounds “right.”
He Prayed for Them, vv. 5-10
The word “faith” appears 5 times in this chapter. Faith is like a grain of mustard seed that looks small and insignificant, but contains life and is able to grow to great heights. This faith comes and grows in the Word of God, not in experience.
